A Storm Report is the weather history of one address: every day in the last five years when hail, damaging wind or a tornado was recorded within 5 miles, with the evidence for each. It comes back in about two seconds as JSON and five PDFs you can brand and send. It costs $5, and nothing when the address had no storms.

## Who are Storm Reports for?

Software that handles roofing sales and claims. A roofing CRM attaches the hail history to a lead, a claims platform verifies a date of loss, a canvassing tool shows a homeowner what hit their street. The same API key and balance order roof reports and Storm Reports, so a platform that already sells one can add the other. [Storm history in a roofing CRM](https://roofquery.com/guides/storm-history-in-a-roofing-crm) walks through one integration.

## What are the five PDFs, and what does each show?

All five come with every report at no extra cost, rendered from the stored data each time you open one.

| PDF | Pages | What it shows |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Hail Verification](https://api.roofquery.com/sample-storm-report/hail-verification.pdf) | 1 | For adjusters: each hail date with the hail at the property and within 1, 3 and 5 miles |
| [Wind Verification](https://api.roofquery.com/sample-storm-report/wind-verification.pdf) | 1 | For wind claims: wind within 1, 3 and 5 miles, airport station gusts, warnings and tornadoes |
| [Date of Loss](https://api.roofquery.com/sample-storm-report/date-of-loss.pdf) | 2 to 3 | One claimed date by distance, with the map and the hail history around it. Needs a date of loss |
| [Weather History](https://api.roofquery.com/sample-storm-report/weather-history.pdf) | 4 to 7 | Everything: the map, a summary, hail and wind tables, and every storm day with its evidence |
| [Homeowner Storm Summary](https://api.roofquery.com/sample-storm-report/homeowner.pdf) | 1 | A plain-English page for homeowners with a damage-chance rating and the map |

The links open samples from a recorded Norman, Oklahoma report. Each PDF has a Notes box of five writing lines, and prints the claim number and insured name when you give them. [Which storm report PDF to send](https://roofquery.com/guides/which-storm-report-pdf-to-send) covers who wants which.

## What can change after you order?

The details, not the weather. The weather data is stored when you order and never changes, so a PDF downloaded a year later shows the same storms. The date of loss, claim number, insured name, notes and the PDF's branding are defaults set at ordering, and any read or download can pass its own. One $5 report can be re-issued for a different date of loss, or branded for a different customer's [brand profile](https://roofquery.com/docs/brand-profiles), without ordering again. See [Storm report PDFs](https://roofquery.com/docs/storm-report-pdfs).

## What is in the data?

Everything the PDFs print, as JSON. Hail and wind tables by distance, every storm day with plain-English evidence, a `confidence` rating for how sure the data is that a storm reached the property, a chance-of-roof-damage rating (low, medium or high), the date of loss result with the nearest storms before and after, the map, and the parcel boundary and owner of record from county data. Radar hail goes back to October 2020. Canada has radar hail and weather stations but no public archive of storm reports or warnings, and the report says so. Field by field: [Storm report data](https://roofquery.com/docs/storm-report-data) and [what's in a storm report](https://roofquery.com/guides/whats-in-a-storm-report).

## How much does it cost and how fast is it?

$5 per report, and $0 when no storm of any kind was recorded within 5 miles in the last five years; that report is still delivered, marked `no_storm_data`. Ordering needs $5 available either way. The report arrives in about two seconds in the response that orders it, so there is nothing to wait for or poll; a `completed` webhook goes out too, like every report. The sandbox has five recorded addresses that return free, unchanging reports. See the [sandbox reference](https://roofquery.com/docs/sandbox).

## How do you order one?

One POST to the same endpoint as roof reports, with the address, its coordinates and `"reportType": "storm"`; there is no scope. In the dashboard: **Order a report**, then **Storm report**.

```
curl -X POST "https://api.roofquery.com/api/v1/reports/orders" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer rq_live_sk_..." \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "reportType": "storm",
    "street": "3208 Riviera Dr", "city": "Norman", "state": "OK",
    "postalCode": "73072", "country": "US",
    "latitude": 35.182884, "longitude": -97.458908,
    "dateOfLoss": "2025-05-25",
    "claim": "CLM-20419",
    "insuredName": "Jordan Smith"
  }'
```

The `201` carries the whole report, with a link to each PDF in `documents`. The PDF links need no API key. Every field is in [Order a storm report](https://roofquery.com/docs/order-a-storm-report), and [how to order a storm report by API](https://roofquery.com/guides/how-to-order-a-storm-report-by-api) goes step by step.

## What does a Storm Report not do?

It is not a damage assessment. The damage chance is a likelihood from weather data only; an inspection confirms damage. It does not measure the roof: pair it with a [residential](https://roofquery.com/guides/residential-roof-report) or [commercial roof report](https://roofquery.com/guides/commercial-roof-report), or [Rapid Squares](https://roofquery.com/guides/rapid-squares) for squares in under 30 minutes. It covers five years, never further back than the radar data.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does a storm report cost?

$5 per address, and nothing when no hail, wind or tornado was recorded within 5 miles in the last five years.

### What PDFs come with a RoofQuery storm report?

Five: Hail Verification, Wind Verification, Date of Loss, Weather History and the Homeowner Storm Summary, all included and all branded like your roof reports.

### Does a storm report prove the roof was damaged?

No. It shows the weather recorded at and near the property and rates the chance of roof damage from that weather. An inspection confirms damage.

### Can I change the date of loss after ordering?

Yes. The date of loss, claim number, insured name and notes can change on every read and download of the same report, at no extra cost.
